The Montessori Math sequence

Math runs 12 published lessons here, from Number Rods at 3.5 to 5 years to Addition Strip Board at 5 to 7.5 years. They're listed in the order a child meets them, each linked to its full page. We add lessons as each one is written and checked against Montessori's own books, so the list will grow.

Start with Number Rods. If you aren't sure your child is ready for Math, two minutes of questions place your child on the sequence.

How the Math lessons depend on each other

Prerequisite map of the Math lessons published so far. Each arrow runs from a lesson to the one that needs it first. Drawn from the lesson data, so it changes when a lesson is added. Scroll sideways to see every area.

Math is one strand of the shelf. To see what sits beside number rods at the same age across all five areas, go to Montessori activities for age 3, or answer six questions for a first shelf of your own.
