Flower Arranging Set
A flower arranging set is a tray of bud vases with a small pitcher and funnel, for children of about 3 to 5.5. The only full kit we found on October 5, 2026 was $49.99 CAD in Canada; US sellers had single bud vases from $2.50. Kitchen jars and a funnel make a full tray.
The first lesson with it is Flower Arranging. Not sure your child is ready for it? Two minutes of questions place your child on the sequence.

What the flower arranging set is for
The child fills a vase through the funnel, trims a flower stem to fit, sets the vase on a doily and chooses a place for it in the room. Then the tray is wiped and put back.
Montessori's handbook asks for flowering plants in every working room and low cupboards where children can set flowers. The tray itself comes from later practice.

- No US seller had a full flower arranging kit when we looked. Montessori Services sells the pieces singly, from $2.50 for a bud vase.
- The price range above is for single pieces. A tray built from US pieces plus scissors and a funnel costs a little more; much of it is already in most kitchens.
- Small, heavy vases matter most. Light ones tip as soon as a stem goes in.
- The Montessori Room's kit at $49.99 CAD is a good model to copy. Its three thick glass vases don't tip.
Making the flower arranging set at home
What to gather
- Two or three small heavy glass jars or bud vases
- A small funnel that fits the vase necks
- A creamer jug or small pitcher
- Child scissors, a small sponge and a bowl for stems
- Paper or fabric doilies, and a tray
| Piece | Size and marking | How many |
|---|---|---|
| Doilies | About 12 cm across | One per vase |
- 1Lay out the tray left to right: pitcher, funnel, vases, scissors, bowl, sponge, doilies.
- 2Fill the pitcher a third full before each lesson.
- 3Keep a jug of flowers with firm stems beside the tray.
Keeping a full set on the shelf
- Wash the vases weekly; old flower water smells and stains glass.
- Check the scissors are child scissors and keep them closed on the tray.
Questions parents ask about the flower arranging set
What is in a Montessori flower arranging tray?
Two or three bud vases with a small pitcher and a funnel to fill them. Add child scissors and a sponge, doilies, and a bowl for trimmed stems.
Do I need to buy a flower arranging set?
No. Small jars and kitchen tools work. Buy single bud vases if your jars tip easily.
What flowers are safe for children to arrange?
Firm-stemmed flowers such as daisies and carnations. Avoid poisonous plants like foxglove and lily of the valley, and lilies if you have a cat.
Before the flower arranging set, make sure the work before it is solid. The wet pouring between two pitchers lesson lists the signs that a child is ready to move on.
