Metal Polishing Set
A metal polishing set is a tray of mild polish, an applicator, a soft cloth and a small brass or copper object, for children of about 3.5 to 6. No full kit was for sale when we checked on October 5, 2026; a natural metal polish cost $8.50 and a polish box $30.00. Most of the set is already at home.

What the metal polishing set is for
The child dabs a little polish on the metal, rubs in small circles, and buffs it with a soft cloth until it shines. Then everything goes back on the tray.
Montessori's 1914 handbook lists polishing the brasses among the children's daily jobs. Its films show them polishing shoes and the metal parts of a measuring stand.

- No seller we checked had a metal polishing kit in stock. Montessori Services' kits are no longer sold; it still sells the polish and a box.
- The polish is the one thing worth buying. Check that it's labelled non-toxic, and keep it out of reach.
- The Montessori Room's set is for wood polishing, a related work. Alison's, Montessori Outlet and Nienhuis's US store had no metal polishing kits.

Making the metal polishing set at home
What to gather
- A small tarnished brass or copper object
- A tiny jar for polish, or half a lemon and a little salt
- Cotton swabs and a soft cloth
- A wipeable mat and a tray
- An apron

- 1Put a pea-sized amount of polish in the tiny jar, or set out a lemon half and salt.

Keeping a full set on the shelf
- Wash the buffing cloth often; old polish smears.
- Leave one object tarnished on purpose, so there's always something to polish.

Is metal polish safe for children?
Choose a mild, non-toxic polish and let the adult measure out a tiny amount. On brass and copper, lemon juice and salt work too.
Can I buy a Montessori metal polishing kit?
We found none in stock in October 2026. The polish and a box are sold separately, and the rest is in most homes.
